TRU/ILTA Webinar: How To Retain Technology Talent

In case you missed out, you can view the recording here! Join us on Thursday, December 13 at 12:00pm ET for a TRU/ILTA webinar: “How To Retain Technology Talent.”

The first step in retaining tech talent is to stop thinking of them as tech talent. Professionals who are highly proficient in the technical arts and have found themselves employed in the areas where technology meets the law are becoming trusted consultants and subject matter experts relied upon for the successful practice of law. In this webinar, we'll challenge traditional perceptions of talent and what motivates talent in the legal technology ecosystem (to perform, retain and potentially be acquired elsewhere). We will expose trends in employer choices that aim to increase employee retention through work-from-home remote hiring/permissions, work/life balance initiatives, contract staffing augmentation, and relocation assistance and acceptance. We'll also share secrets about how to cultivate staff for promotion and career growth, and cover the importance of education, training and certification in the employer retention curriculum. Trends and observations will cover both law firm and corporate legal technology human capital, but also touch upon patterns in consulting firm and service provider hiring and talent retention success/failure.

TRU CEO and Founder Jared Coseglia will guide the conversation, sharing stories and statistics to help employers make smarter and healthier decisions about employee retention and recruitment strategy. He will be joined by James Bekier, Director of Litigation Support at BakerHostetler and James Bandes, Litigation Technology Advisory Services Manager at Quinn Emanuel. Bekier and Bandes will also share their keys to successful retention of legal technology talent.

TRU Tips

There is currently a high demand for and sudden drought of ESI processors.

TOP 3 Reasons For The ESI Data Processor Drought
  • Law firms have been pushing their processing to third-party vendors with greater regularity, meaning fewer data processors in the low to mid-market with law firm experience.
  • Many data processors have evolved into project managers and no longer want to participate technically in processing.
  • The squeeze on processing margins has hiring managers wanting to pay less for processing talent, but still desiring seasoned technical skills for processing analysts.

Planning your annual conference spend/agenda is a critical part of your professional development.

TOP 3 Legalweek 2019 Takeaways
  • It is Legalweek, not Legaltech. The shift and focus for target audience is now lawyers, not just legal technologists.
  • There was lots of talk of “AI” but few are really using it; this event still centers largely on e-discovery providers and ancillary solutions.
  • Almost everyone on the consulting firm and service provider side of legal services was in town, and the meetings that occur at this event still set the tone for the year ahead for new and renewed business alliances.
