For many, Legalweek is an exercise in rekindling and maintaining existing relationships, not making new ones. For buyers of software and services, the desire to find out of the box new solutions is a key driver for attendance.

Top 3 Takeaways From Legalweek New York 2018
  • AI and security remain the hot topics for legal technology in 2018 with GDPR and Information Governance also garnering significant attention with EU privacy deadlines.
  • There was tremendous buzz around cloud e-discovery software providers raising large amounts of venture capital, specifically Logikcull and Disco, as well as curiosity around how much market share they actually have captured away from the dominant player in the space, Relativity, whose RelativityOne offering continues to gain subscribers.
  • The vendor floor was at its thinnest in years with notable absences from household brand names in e-discovery, a lack of meaningful participation from the cybersecurity vendors, and less foot traffic from attendees. Many vendors had events off-site from the show to capitalize on the swarms of potential clients congregating in New York for the conference.

TOP 3 Job Market Takeaways From Q2 2020
  • For most alternative legal service providers, the bottom was felt in April and May with all-time lows in net new hires.
  • The privacy job market is coming back strong, but corporations are rethinking and retooling their leadership roles/responsibilities rather than hiring/scaling their middle management staff.
  • ESI companies and law firms are running lean on talent despite rising billables. ESI mid-market staffing remains flat (on hold mostly) for project managers and analysts.
