TRU Staffing Partners, a leading search firm representing talent and opportunities in the e-discovery and litigation support space, today announced it has received just under 100 applications for the recently launched Scholarship Program.
The Scholarship Program was initially announced in March as a way to bring needed training and
education to potential job seekers in the legal technology industry. The deadline to submit applications was May 15, 2012. Current scholarship partners include LitWorks™/DTI and Georgetown University Paralegal Studies Program, with others in the works. eDiscovery Journal will also be selecting two of the recipients and giving them the opportunity to document their entire experience with the scholarship they receive on the eDiscovery Journal blog: http://ediscoveryjournal.com/blog/.
The applications have come in from 16 different states, with 26 percent coming from California, around 40 percent coming in from New York and New Jersey, and 10 percent from the Greater Washington, DC area. Sixty-nine percent of the applicants are currently working in the legal industry. Current roles vary greatly and include contract attorneys, analysts, consultants, litigation support project managers and coordinators, litigation support specialists, and paralegals, among others. The current salary and work history information provided by the applicants indicates that about 63 percent are in entry-level positions, underscoring one of the significant trends that TRU President Jared Coseglia recently discussed in his article on the Forensic Focus website: “There remains an abundance of talent who want to become project managers, but little opportunity for entry-level talent to break into the industry.” Coseglia also discusses the “need for big-picture EDRM education, coupled with practical technical training,” which TRU is helping to facilitate with its scholarship program. “The response to this year’s pilot program has been overwhelmingly positive, and we are exploring new partnerships that we anticipate will allow us to give five times the amount of scholarship opportunities next year,” said Coseglia. “These partnerships will include paralegal institutes, software companies, and certification programs.”
The applications will go into the selection process and recipients will be notified and announced by July 4, 2012. Scholarship recipients will have the opportunity to execute their education and training in the third and fourth quarters of 2012.
