TAR/CAL Review Manager (LAW FIRM)

Our Client, a global Am Law firm is seeking to add an analytics and review guru to its thriving litigation support and practice technology team based out of either New York or Washington, D.C. The successful candidate will be an attorney with superior e-discovery expertise with deep experience managing all aspects of review: leveraging AI tools such as TAR, CAL, and predictive coding, as well as managing review teams once documents are culled. Position Summary

The Document Review Manager will report to the department Director. Requirements include significant experience of e-discovery vendor, Big 4, or Am Law50 practice technology experience, with a strong emphasis on Managed Document Review.

  • Works with case teams to plan document review projects including designing review workflow, recommending analytics and/or review accelerators, implementing predictive coding/TAR and CAL/TAR2 models as appropriate, managing deadlines and quality of review
  • Serves as liaison between WC case team and vendor/contract document review team
  • Kicks off and oversee each project and ensure quality and success through actions
  • Consults with case teams regarding best practices for document review management and matter workflow
  • Prepares recommendations, budgets, and project plans
  • Communicates with case teams on document review management issues, such as review pace and status, quality, substantive issues, and production planning
  • Assists with the review and analysis of keyword terms
  • Assists with application of advance analytics, including communication analysis, machine learning (TAR/CAL), concept searches, etc.
  • Thorough understanding of, and ability to explain, TAR1 metrics and validation
  • Assists with the analysis of ESI Protocol and Production Specifications
  • Reports to case teams and Director on project status
  • Tracks and analyzes key documents
  • Designing database coding panel layouts, review workflows, and quality control workflows; run search term reports and batch documents for review
  • Advising and recommending vendor selection, facilitating vendor engagement, and onboarding contract attorneys for document review
  • Ability to travel domestic and internationally to support cases
  • Supervises other firm staff attorneys performing document review function
  • Brings internal visibility to the offering
  • Meets billable hours set by firm
  • JD degree and bar admission in at least one jurisdiction required; attorney in good standing in at least one jurisdiction required
  • RCA and or Brainspace certification strongly preferred
  • Project management and business analysis certification a plus, PMP or ACEDS
  • Experience working with and managing electronic document review projects at Big 4 or Am Law 25 firm including running TAR1 and TAR2/CAL reviews
  • Thorough knowledge of Relativity (including Relativity Analytics and RAR), and Brainspace; prior significant experience with Predictive Coding a must
  • Experience training users on firm applications in class-room setting a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of designing databases and workflows for organizing and review of data
  • Experience in analyzing data processing reporting generated by vendors and internal processing
  • Experience with government investigation matters and managing the document review deliverables
  • Experience managing cases across multiple offices, domestic and/or international, on large matters
  • Thorough knowledge of the electronic discovery process, including evolving standards created through case law, rulemaking, and groups such as EDRM and The Sedona Conference
  • Thorough, detailed knowledge of hardware and software utilized for information retrieval and archiving; ongoing deep, broad, and current knowledge of emerging products and technological solutions
  • Able to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously with a high degree of professionalism and client service orientation
  • Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Highly developed organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Possesses superb written and verbal communication skills to enable effective and professional communication with clients, colleagues, and vendors
  • Able to manage time and resources to meet or exceed established service level agreements
