Our client, a large Am Law 100 firm, is seeking a Practice Manager for their New York office. The Practice Manager is responsible for providing a combination of technical, analytical, and operational support as well as playing an active role in the development and implementation of key practice group initiatives, strategic plans, and operational goals. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and strategic thinker with excellent written and verbal communication skills who can work across all levels of firm management. Job Description

Management and Reporting

  • Manages general daily administration and business operations of the Practice Management department
  • Partners with peer departments (Business Development, Legal Personnel, Recruiting, Finance, Knowledge Management, etc.) on various strategic practice group projects, including implementing process improvements to increase efficiencies across practice and firm operations
  • Coordinates with the Directors and other peer departments to track lateral partner integration initiatives
  • Facilitates the strategic planning process for practice and subgroups
  • Collaborates with firm and practice group leadership to develop practice group business strategies; oversees execution of and progress on practice group strategic initiatives; ensures that practice initiatives are in line with the firm’s goals and objectives of the strategic plan and the firm strategic plan
  • Assists firm and Leadership in business planning and analysis, report preparations, meetings and communications, and implementation of practice and firm initiatives
  • In collaboration with the Finance department, reviews and analyzes profitability reports and other key performance indicators and update the Directors on significant performance markers, highlighting potential issues
  • Conducts routine analyses of practice group financial reports and metrics and manage practice group budgets

Operational Support

  • Provides operational support to the Directors and subgroup leaders as needed
  • Assists in coordinating and planning practice and subgroup meetings, events, and other group or industry meetings
  • Coordinates room and technical requirements as necessary
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Attorney Development

  • Assists Directors with management of the free market system and cross-office staffing needs
  • Provides orientation and integration support to junior associates and lateral hires 
  • Works with partners, Directors, and Training and Development team to plan and conduct formal training programs for attorneys

  • Strong interpersonal skills, service mentality and ability to build relationships
  • Strong data analytics skills to assess a range of metrics and presents data in an effective manner for senior leaders
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize work in a dynamic and complex environment to meet deadlines and daily requirements
  • Ability to provide quality and efficient client service to both internal and external clients
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, and the ability to quickly learn and utilize additional software
  • Reporting to the Director, the ideal candidate will have significant law firm or other professional services experience
  • Bachelor's degree required; JD or MBA preferred
