Senior Patent Data Analyst (CONSULTANCY)

Our client, a well-established consulting firm, seeks a Senior Patent Data Analyst at both a manager and director level. This is for a newly developed service line that is growing rapidly! The Senior Patent Data Analyst will support the Solutions group’s research and thought-leadership function and will own projects from kickoff to the presentation of insights, with input from the Vice President of the department and other stakeholders throughout the organization. The ideal candidate will have business experience in the intellectual property space, strong understanding of patents and patent issues, and demonstrated experience working with patent or litigation data. Strong experience using Excel SQL and SQL is a plus. Bachelor's degree is required. Advanced degree is highly desired. Send resumes to [email protected].


  • Lead and collaborate with internal project stakeholders and resources from project scoping through execution
  • Identify and scope projects from member clients’ thought-provoking questions
  • Identify areas that are best addressed through secondary research and complete the same
  • Design and execute complex analyses that answer critical questions and support compelling stories
  • Define a dataset of patents? for analyzing using techniques such as boolean searching
  • Craft compelling storylines in the form of PowerPoint decks and whitepapers
  • Produce written and visual output (e.g., PowerPoint decks and Word documents)
  • Manage the project life cycle, identifying and assessing project risks to ensure the project maintains its scope, complexity, and timeframe
  • Escalate risks and communicate changes to project delivery as needed
  • Conduct quality checks on analyses and project outputs throughout the life cycle of the project

Education/Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree required
  • JD or MBA preferred
  • Several years of professional experience (a few in the intellectual property space, preferably at a consulting or research firm)
  • Strong understanding of patents and patent issues
  • Demonstrated experience working with patent or litigation data

Required Competencies:

  • Design and execute data intense analyses using Excel or other analytical tool
  • Apply quantitative methods to business problems
  • Communicate complex analysis in an easy to understand way to business stakeholders and clients
  • Create and effectively use a range of data visualizations to explore data and communicate results
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills—able to produce publication-ready articles
  • Highly focused, organized, and detail-oriented
  • Demonstrates sound judgment and execute against deliverables under deadlines and competing priorities
  • Ability to work with virtual, global teams
  • Willingness to adapt to the many changing requirements/needs of a fast-growing, young company
  • Results-oriented and service-minded with ability to develop and foster relationships with key stakeholders internally and externally
  • Programming experience (e.g., Python) a plus
  • Required travel up to 20% domestically with potential for international travel
  • Ability to work in a virtual environment
  • Experience with Tableau a plus
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Experience with a patent database tool, e.g., Innography, Derwent Innovation
  • Working knowledge of SQL preferred
  • Strong data skills (e.g., Excel)
