Discovery Specialist (LAW FIRM)

Our client, a thriving U.S. national law firm, is seeking a Discovery Specialist for their Milwaukee, Wisconsin or Chicago, IL office. This individual will be held accountable for managing data in the firm’s internal and hosted document review platforms. They will work closely with Discovery Consultants and legal teams to perform the analytical and engineering aspects of data management throughout the discovery lifecycle and assess work performed for quality insurance. Candidates must have litigation support experience, including litigation software use and administration, within a mid- or large-sized law firm. Knowledge of Relativity is a plus. Position Description:    

The Discovery Specialist will be responsible for managing data in the firm’s internal and hosted document review platforms; data management responsibilities include quality checking, documenting (for defensible audit trails), reporting, analysis, and maintenance.

  • Works closely with Discovery Consultants (Consultants) and legal teams to perform the analytical and engineering aspects of data management throughout the discovery lifecycle
  • Works closely with Consultants and legal teams to develop and execute appropriate litigation response and evidence management plans
  • Evaluates work performed by legal teams, peers, and vendors for quality assurance
  • Tracks data throughout the discovery lifecycle; document how data is “worked” at each stage
  • Prepares reports for the Consultants and legal teams; assists Consultants and legal teams with analyzing these reports
  • Maintains all discovery data by archiving and prepping data for warm and cold storage, exporting data for offline storage or returning to clients, and deleting data
  • Masters and manages document review platforms containing client evidence and firm work product, including Relativity
  • Drives the Relativity platform, when needed, by processing data, loading data into the review platform, performing analytics and predictive coding, converting natives to images, performing optical character recognition on non-searchable documents, performing logical document unitization, coding documents, building production sets and creating load files, and endorsing production copies (with Bates numbers or confidentiality designations)
  • Prepares and transfers data for review, deposition, court proceedings, trial, or presentation
  • Takes ownership and works with internal and external resources to troubleshoot technical roadblocks and complex situations; clearly documents results in the knowledge base and appropriately communicate results to the entire Litigation Support team
  • Participates in process improvement and the evaluation of new technology
  • Participates in local and national thought leadership groups, such as ILTA, ACEDS, EDRM, and/or SEDONA
  • Implements and utilizes best practices and/or quality processes to deliver a high-quality work product; productivity and quality will be tracked and trended to demonstrate the level of performance within the role
  • Leverages the department work management system to stay organized and effectively communicate updates to the entire Litigation Support team
  • Consistently completes work requests in an accurate and timely manner and over communicates work status
