Our client, an Am Law Top 20 law firm, is seeking a Legal Project Manager in their Washington, D.C. office. The Legal Project Manager will work with lawyers and legal support professionals to provide project management support across a number of practice areas within the litigation team. The core responsibility of this role is operational, working with matter teams to develop and implement a best practice approach to scoping, budgeting, setting up project phases, and project managing legal matters within a consistent overall framework that ensures efficiency and high quality deliverables. Project management experience within a professional, consulting or legal services environment is required as are excellent written and oral communication skills. Position Description:    

  • Works closely with matter teams to support the efficient management of client engagements throughout the full matter life-cycle and identify opportunities to provide enhanced efficiency and quality in our service delivery through alternative uses of people, processes, and technology
  • Provides on-demand support and consultancy for matter teams on matters at set up, delivery and/or review
  • Serves as a trusted member of matter teams, focused on service quality, delivery and efficiency, and acts as the primary matter team resource for a range of topics, including project planning, fee estimating and budget preparation, fee and scope management, and status reporting
  • Provides matter teams with legal project management knowledge and support with templates and legal technology systems
  • Prepares project and communications plans and timelines for internal and external use, as well as regular team meetings and client touch points
  • Acts as a liaison between the firm and clients to ensure adherence to outside counsel guidelines, with focus on staffing, reporting, and working with Finance to meet client billing requirements
  • Provides regular and accurate reporting of project progress and deliverables and works with clients in terms of streamlining the same
  • Supports the implementation, use, and further development of legal project management and Knowledge Management tools and resources, and helps to integrate legal project management techniques into the culture of the firm
  • Contributes to the continuous development and improvement of legal project management methodologies and processes, by collaborating with others in the Knowledge Management Department to develop project management resources for lawyers, legal assistants, paralegals, and staff

Qualifications:

  • Paralegal Certificate or J.D. preferred
  • Project management experience within a professional, consulting or legal services environment
  • Excellent English writing and oral communication skills
  • Formal project management qualification, such as PRINCE2 or PMP, preferred
  • Competent with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and experience with Document Management Systems, Project Extranets, SharePoint, Microsoft Project, and other project management resources
  • High-performing and results-driven, with a record of implementing pragmatic, yet creative and effective outcomes
  • Strong communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to confidently interact at all levels
  • Excellent time management, organizational, decision-making, and problem solving skills
  • Willing to challenge and question assumptions and propose alternative and bold solutions
  • Self-motivated and able to demonstrate determination and persistence
  • Ability to work collaboratively with all levels within an organization, from senior partners to more junior team members to clients
  • Flexibility to work extended hours, including weekends and holidays
