Manager of Litigation Technology (LAW FIRM)

Our client, one of the world’s largest IP firms, is seeking a Manager of Litigation Technology to work in their Washington, D.C. office. This role will be responsible for managing the e-discovery operations and staff, including monitoring staff workflow to ensure that workloads are appropriately weighted and balanced, and then coordinating assignments to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines. The Manager will provide expert consultation on e-discovery technology and best practices to ensure the highest level of client service and satisfaction. A Relativity Certification (RCA) is required along with management experience at an Am Law 200 firm, consultancy, or a national vendor in this space. Experience with machine learning, analytics, data analysis, and predictive coding preferred. Ideal candidate will also have experience with document review management. Position Description:    

  • Manages e-discovery operations and staff including monitoring staff workflow to ensure that workloads are appropriately weighted and balanced; coordinates assignments to meet daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
  • Provides expert consultation on e-discovery technology and best practices to ensure the highest level of client service and satisfaction and manage risks; ensures litigation support team delivers timely technical services and offers appropriate expertise
  • Provides vendor and budget management for e-discovery and litigation support projects
  • Manages team communication to proactively update case teams on deadlines and deliverables
  • Coordinates and manages Relativity environment and outsourced managed services to meet case deadlines
  • Works with Director to develop processes, procedures, technical papers, and metrics for the e-discovery process
  • Leads education and training of legal teams regarding the e-discovery team’s technologies, procedures, and best practices; maintains and updates training documentation on key department services and processes
  • Assists with development and management of e-discovery project plans and risk and security management plans.
  • Participates in interviewing and candidate selection, assimilation, and training of new e-discovery staff, as needed
  • Provides guidance/coaching to staff members through real-time feedback during the course of day-to-day interactions
  • Completes performance evaluation process in a thoughtful, fair and timely manner; ensures development plans are in place to monitor staff growth and make appropriate progress against stated developmental goals; monitors and remediates difficult performance situations and work with Director, Litigation Technology and Support to take appropriate action
  • Identifies areas for additional training to ensure that skill levels meet the firm’s high standards of excellence; provides guidance and development opportunities to e-discovery staff members to help them achieve longer-term career aspirations
  • Holds regular staff meetings to discuss departmental operations issues, firm initiatives, and provide continuing education on policies and trends relating to litigation technology issues

Qualified Candidates Will Have:

  • Master’s degree or JD required
  • Management experience at an Am Law 200 firm, consultancy, or a national vendor in this space
  • Relativity RCA Certification required; e-discovery software certifications preferred
  • Experience with machine learning, analytics, data analysis, and predictive coding preferred
  • Experience with document review management a plus
  • Experience with software development a plus
  • Background in team management, process management and demonstrated experience with litigation support/e-discovery software and analytics (preferably Relativity, Concordance, Ipro, LiveNote, CaseMap, TimeMap, dtSearch, project management software), and other similar software
  • Excellent communication, oral, written and interpersonal skills; ability to influence persuasively and effectively with a collaborative orientation
  • Strong organization and project management skills; demonstrated ability to navigate sensitive and difficult situations with ease, strong analytical and problem-solving skills and ability to synthesize complex data; ability to set priorities, plan, organize, follow-through, delegation, and negotiation skills is required
