Head of Firmwide e-Discovery Resources (LAW FIRM)

Our client, an Am Law 50 law firm, is seeking a Head of Firmwide e-Discovery Resources within their Litigation Department in San Francisco or Los Angeles. This role is responsible for developing and implementing strategic plans to provide effective case management services to the Firm’s clients; establishing best practices and roles for all phases of e-discovery including planning, budgeting, data management and reporting tools; providing effective leadership and guidance to the e-Discovery Resources Management team; promoting the department’s effectiveness, including assessing team and client needs; organizing and directing workflow; training, coaching and motivating team; and ensuring client service and satisfaction is attained in all relevant areas of the position. Experience in a management role and within a large law firm is required and experience working across global organization is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated knowledge of electronic discovery legal and technical issues and how they impact the litigation process; familiarity with computer hardware, software, and network technologies; experience with e-discovery hosted review applications and service models; and knowledge of common industry processing, review and analytics options for efficient electronic data management. Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees development and implementation of strategic plans for providing effective case management services to the Firm’s clients
  • Establishes best practices and roles for all phases of e-discovery including planning, budgeting, data management and reporting tools
  • Establishes and implements relevant technology to effectively support the litigation practice and recommend practices and systems that are consistent across offices and in line with the business goals of the Firm and e-discovery strategic plans 
  • Makes strategic recommendations and tactical plans to ensure the Firm’s litigation practice is using appropriate and cost effective technologies to manage discovery process
  • Leads post-project analyses to discover workflow inefficiencies and obstacles and identifies, designs, and applies responsive quality control processes and improvements for the discovery process
  • Manages the development and maintenance of all ERM documentation relating to internal processes, workflows, and litigation support information
  • Provides appropriate e-discovery and litigation technology consulting services to clients, attorneys, paralegals, and support staff
  • Oversees the development and delivery of litigation case team training on effective document review protocol with appropriate electronic document review platforms
  • Ensures firm-wide technical assistance is available for all Firm-supported litigation software and tools and vendor-hosted technology
  • Communicates, markets, and promotes use of litigation technology, ERM services, and products supported by the Firm
  • Oversees the relationship with the Firm’s e-discovery managed services partner to maintain a high level of support with continued improvements to workflows and cost management
  • Participates in contract negotiations
  • Assumes responsibility for ensuring efficient operations, relevant reporting, and project-level quality control measures, delegating tasks as appropriate
  • Works with provider to optimize efficient use of managed services environment and services
  • Develops and maintains a group of preferred service providers that can support firm-wide litigation cases; evaluates vendor use statistics and service levels

Qualifications:    

  • Bachelor’s degree required; JD strongly preferred
  • Extensive experience in the field, with experience in a management role
  • Large law firm experience required
  • Experience working across global organization is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electronic discovery legal and technical issues and how they impact the litigation process
  • Familiarity with computer hardware, software, and network technologies
  • Experience with e-discovery hosted review applications and service models as well as knowledge of common industry processing, review, and analytics options for efficient electronic data management
