Senior Systems Engineer (GOV'T)

Our client, a leading technology innovation company, is seeking a Senior Security Engineer for their Washington, D.C. office. This role will be responsible for the administration of Windows, Linux, and Cisco systems, as well as preparing and delivering reports to senior management and collaborating with technical staff and executive management. A Bachelor’s degree and extensive experience installing, configuring and administering Windows servers, Red Hat Linux servers and Cisco routers, Cisco network gear, switches and firewalls is required. In addition, experience providing technical support for disaster recovery planning and implementation; familiarity with zones on HP/Brocade Fiber Switches or equivalent, as well as familiarity with SolarWinds network monitoring, design, installation, configuration, and administration; and in-depth knowledge and experience designing, developing and implementing enterprise-level server platforms is desired. Duties/Responsibilities:
1.1 Administration for Windows, Linux & Cisco

  • Windows server installation, configuration and administration
  • Linux server installation, configuration and administration
  • Cisco router, switch and firewall installation, configuration and administration
  • Manage on and off site tape backups
  • Manage dedicated fiber network linking servers with SAN devices
  • Comprehensive support for Oracle DBA and Developer staffs
  • Comprehensive support for Stata/SAS Programmers
  • Prepare weekly reports on work activities, accomplishments, and the status of projects

1.2 Windows System Administration

  • Build and administer Microsoft Windows Servers
  • Build and administer a VMware vSphere Essentials for an IaaS environment
  • Build and use Windows remote Activation Servers
  • Patch servers using Shavlik
  • Maintain an Active Directory to push security settings to servers
  • Configure HP Blade Systems and Virtual Connects or equivalent
  • Manage storage on HP EVA and 3Par storage systems or equivalent
  • Call support vendors and oversaw hardware repairs
  • Configure and maintain a Symantec Endpoint Security Server
  • Administer servers running MS SQL Server and aided in simple tasks to maintain the database
  • Use a Systems Change Request system for change approvals
  • Write scripts to synchronize directories using Beyond Compare or a similar tool
  • Manage jobs in the task scheduler
  • Manage a server remote control system with SolarWinds
  • DameWare Remote Support or similar software
  • Configure individual and group level access to files and directories
  • Process log information to a log aggregation system such as ArcSight
  • Build and maintain an HP Systems Insight Manager (SIM) server – and registered the following OS’ to report state and confirmation information dynamically: Linux/Windows Servers
  • Maintain a DNS server and configured zone transfers
  • Manage a Certificate Authority server and installed certificates for SSL
  • Manage Web servers using IIS

1.3 Linux System Administration

  • Building and administrating Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization for Servers
  • Building and administrating Red Hat Enterprise Linux Servers
  • Use GFS2, KVM, and clustering Linux systems
  • Patch and build servers using Red Hat Network Satellite Server
  • Configure HP Blade Systems and Virtual Connects or equivalent
  • Manage storage on HP EVA and 3Par storage systems or equivalent
  • Configure zones on HP/Brocade Fiber Switches or equivalent
  • Monitor server hardware health, OS state and network connectivity, real-time and via SMTP e-mail notifications
  • Manage data and systems backups using NetBackup and tapes
  • Configure and maintaining Snort IDS devices
  • Use Putty, Xming and WinSCP on Windows desktops
  • Leverage Systems Change Request system for change approvals
  • Develop of complex Unix shell scripts and managed cron jobs
  • Configure individual and group level access to files and directories
  • Load data from a wide verity of devices and formats
  • Disaster recovery planning and implementation
  • Support SAS, Stata and R, or equivalent econometric application, in a Red Hat Linux environment
  • Administer Oracle RH Linux Virtualization
  • Configure LDAP based authentication using Centrify or equivalent

1.4 Cisco System and Network Administration

  • Cisco router design, installation, configuration, and administration using EIGRP
  • Cisco switch design, installation, configuration, and administration, layer 3 with HSRP for fail-over
  • Cisco firewall design, installation, configuration, and administration with QoS

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience installing, configuring and administering Windows servers, Red Hat Linux servers and Cisco routers, Cisco network gear, switches and firewalls
  • Experience providing technical support for disaster recovery planning and implementation
  • Familiarity with zones on HP/Brocade Fiber Switches or equivalent
  • Familiarity with SolarWinds network monitoring, design, installation, configuration, and administration
  • In-depth knowledge, skill, ability, and experience designing, developing and implementing enterprise-level server platform for technologies specified in the duties and responsibilities section
  • Experience preparing and delivering reports, presentations, and briefings for senior management
  • Experience demonstrating collaboration with technical staff, professional staff, and executive management
