Cybersecurity Engineer (GOV'T)

Our client has secured a government contract and is seeking experienced, motivated Cybersecurity Engineers for the Chicago area onsite in Hiram, a suburb. Our client is going to scale quickly and this contract is indefinite. Multiple hires and open to moving teams of engineers who have a working relationship together or formed a boutique independent consultancy. This position is responsible for providing Information Assurance and Cybersecurity support and expertise. Experience with NIST 800-37, “Guide to Applying Risk Management Framework to Federal Information Systems,” and NIST 800-53rev4 “Security and Privacy Controls for Federal Information Systems and Organizations,” cybersecurity policy, and threat mitigation is required. The successful candidate must be well-versed in security documentation, cybersecurity tools, intrusion detection, and secured networks. They must have familiarity and experience in the implementation of cybersecurity regulations and development of long-term strategies to continuously improve the overall security posture of an organization. A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, other engineering or technical discipline, or comparable experience is ideal. Responsibilities and Qualifications:

  • Identify security risks through the analysis of known information
  • Assess the Cyber Security risk of IT systems documenting them in formal risk assessments and supporting artifacts associated with the Assessment and Authorization (A&A) process, including System Security Plans
  • Organize, develop, and present security briefings, written summaries, and written reports incorporating narrative, tabular and/or graphic elements on A&A activities
  • Implement IT security solutions and assure successful implementation
  • Apply knowledge of security principles, policy and regulations to daily tasking
  • Experience with Cyber Security document management and is familiar with security and privacy rules associated with Risk Management Framework and NIST 800-53rev4
  • Provide IT security engineering support to cross-functional project teams to ensure that VA security policies, processes, procedures and controls are adhered to, planned for, implemented throughout the project lifecycle
  • Establish standard operating procedures for embedding security driven processes into the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Effectively and efficiently communicating and collaborating with external and internal customers to analyze and monitor a project’s security posture and status
  • Expert knowledge of information security concepts and technologies to include security incident management, change and configuration management, and computer network defense services
  • Experience with securing networks and firm understanding of security operations including resolving network security technical issues and identifying solutions to mitigate security risks
  • Work directly with VA project teams to provide security engineering expertise and observations and recommendations where appropriate
  • Manage a team of security analysts and engineers to provide high quality support services to the VA
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher and related experience required. Degree must be in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or other engineering or technical discipline is required. Comparable experience may be substituted for education requirement.
  • CISSP, ISSEP, PMP
  • Experience with intrusion detection and associated products
  • Experience in security risk analysis and mitigation strategies
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Excellent written skills for preparing reports and briefings
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate efforts with key government and non-government stakeholders
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance
  • Ability to manage a large, geographically dispersed team of security support staff
  • US Citizenship
  • Previous Government contracting work experience
